Job Creation and Worker Benefits

Luzerne County has seen an increase in large commercial industries, specifically with big box companies offering warehouse work.  Our representatives have allowed these companies to receive tax breaks while paying our workers low wages and providing minimal benefits. Our Government should hold these companies accountable to investing in our community.

With our wealth of colleges and universities in Luzerne County, especially Luzerne County Community College, we could partner with the labor department for unprecedented workforce training, attracting new and good-paying jobs while being ready to fill them.

Small businesses thrive when larger businesses bring in good-paying jobs.

ProTECTING OUR WORKERS

Currently, 18.5 thousand people in Luzerne County work full time and still live below the poverty line.  Additionally, 15.2% of people in Luzerne County live in poverty, a higher percentage than the national average.  On the Luzerne County Council, I will work with our higher up elected officials to work to increase the minimum wage for our workers.

Pay county employees fair wages to create a more efficient government. Our county employees are not always paid a fair market value. By paying county employees fair wages, we can attract top talent and reduce turnover, leading to a more stable, efficient county government.

On Luzerne County Council, I will immediately take up the fight to ensure that we have an efficient government and reduce turnover so that the people can have a more stable county government.

Union Strong

Growing up in a union household, I saw first-hand the importance of having worker protections. Local union leadership has accomplished much for the collective bargaining power of the worker. But in changing times, union rights are always precarious.

When I am on the Luzerne County Council, I will work with unions to renegotiate union agreements with the County and will strive to hire our own county workers. When we hire outside of county for any of these jobs, that means our taxpayer money is leaving the county. By hiring our local workers, we can ensure that our tax money stays in the county and can be reinvested in our communities.

On Luzerne County Council, I will fight to hire our own workers so that we can reinvest our taxpayer money into our own communities, rather than allow that money to benefit out side of our community.
